July Fun

July was such a fun month for Jakob.  He has progressed so much and Mom and Dad have had a lot of fun with him this month.  Here is a sampling of pics from the month.

July 6th - Jakob found a new favorite spot under the kitchen table.

July 7th - Jakob got into the laundry basket in the bathroom and put on Mom's thongs.  Classic!

Jakob can finally ride in the shopping cart sans the car seat.  He loves going to Costco and trying all the samples.

July 26th - Jakob had his first encounter with a dog during his wagon ride.  He wasn't exactly sure what to think about it.

July 26th - Jakob took a wagon ride with our neighbor who is 2 and just got back from spending 6 months in India.  They both enjoyed the ride.

July 30th - Daddy's first softball game.  Jakob didn't enjoy the game much but he enjoyed playing in the grass!

First Birthday

Jakob had a great first birthday!  On Sunday, July 22nd, Nana and PaPa came for a visit to celebrate his birthday.  Jakob loved his new toys, including a light-up ball, telephone and pop-up turtle.  Dinner was a bit of a disaster since the propane on the grill went out during preparation so we had hamburgers and hot dogs via stove top and corn in the microwave.  The Grill Master had nothing to master! Since Jakob didn't like the horrible tasting food, that left more room for cake!  His cake was a rainbow cake Alphabet cube, spelling "JAKE".  Mom was disappointed in how it turned out and definitely didn't claim to be a professional.

Jakob's "true" first birthday was a hot one!  It was 107 degrees, which wasn't much different than what we've experienced all of July.  Mom thought she was going to have to take Jakob to daycare and go to work but he took a good morning nap so she was able to play with him all day.  We went to the pool and had some fun in the sun!  He enjoyed all of his birthday greetings from Noni and Lito, McClain cousins and Aunt Kate.  He also got a second "cake" of banana bread and devoured it.  He knew what to do this time!

Videos posted below are birthday greetings from Tia Kate and the cake eating.

Daddy's Little Engineer

Jakob is becoming Daddy's little engineer.  He loves anything with cords or wires and loves being on the laptop!  Unfortunately, he isn't quite satisfied with the non-working laptop we gave him whenever he sees the lit up screen on Mom's laptop.

Bundle of Laughs

Jakob is a bundle of laughs these days.  He cracks up whenever we make funny faces, or quickly turn around and look at him.  It doesn't take much for him to give a big belly laugh!  The first video is from our beach vacation and the second video is from dinner on July 1st.

Beach Vacation

Last week (June 22nd to June 30), Jakob took his first beach vacation to Dauphin Island, AL.  We spent Friday night in Jackson, Mississippi and Jakob slept through the drive-by tour of the capital buildings on Saturday morning (catching up after a restless night!).  We arrived on the island on Saturday afternoon to a rough ocean but sunny skies.  We got to celebrate Lito's 60th birthday on Saturday evening, even though it was a week late.  On Sunday, the police recommended an island evacuation as a result of tropical storm Debby so we booked a hotel in Mobile and drove through 6 inches of water leaving the island.  We enjoyed time in the pool on Sunday night and got a call on Monday morning that we could return so we spent some time in Mobile, went to a nice seafood restaurant for a late lunch, and then returned to Dauphin Island.  The rest of the week brought about sickness for Jakob so we ended up at urgent care on Thursday with a diagnosis of a sore throat.  On Saturday we returned to our house after a 12 hour drive, finding a broken air conditioner and temps of 95 (better than the 105 degree temps outside).  All-in-all a good vacation and one to remember for Jakob's first beach trip!  Let's hope next year is a little less eventful!  He enjoyed spending time with Lito and Noni, his aunts and uncle and his cousins!  Lots of entertainment for the week.

July 4th

Jakob's first Independence Day was fun.  We went shopping in the morning and got a baby pool, after enjoying his cousin's pool at the beach last week.  Although he doesn't like the sun, he did enjoy splashing in the pool and playing with his bath toys.
