November

Jakob has become quite the little talker.  He loves to sing songs at bed, in the car, and any other time it suits. The bedtime routine has become quite fun with all of his phrases. On November 1, he and Mom were singing Five Little Monkeys and he said, "I song" and then started to sing it all by himself.  On November 2nd, he requested "Jesus, Bible, Me" for Jesus Loves Me so he and Mom sang it together.  One night, after being put in his crib, Mom went up to check on him and he said, "Mommy, get the boogers out".  He couldn't sleep with a clogged nose!  Another favorite phrase is "Sure" and "Sure thing".  He calls himself "Akob" as you'll hear in the video below. Mom and Dad were also quite impressed when he pulled down his very dirty diaper all by himself and tracked some of it on the carpet while he strutted his stuff!  He made Mom's year on November 27th when he said, "I love you Mommy" when he was tucked into bed.  He also started counting more this month, getting most of the numbers from 1 through 10 in the correct order.  It was the month of the birthday parties since he was invited to three parties of his friends from school.  We also enjoyed a visit with his NICU buddy, Sophie at the Butterfly House.  Thanksgiving was also a lot of fun since PaPa, Nana and Grandma came for a visit.  After Thanksgiving, he enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree.  He only managed to break two ornaments in the process!

October

October was full of new developments, especially with speaking.  Jakob is learning to put on his pants and speak complete sentences.  He is also learning his letters and numbers.  He got his second professional haircut on October 14th and still cried at the end of it.  He requests the "Bible song" at bedtime for Jesus Loves Me and loves making coffee.  He often takes the coffee carafe, pours it in his cup, and drinks it, saying "Daddy's coffee".  Each weekend was filled with fall activities, including a visit to the Missouri Botanical Gardens, Rombach's farm, Boo at the Zoo and Halloween Happenings at the Childhood Center.  We also celebrated Jakob's two year NICU homecoming on October 30th with a special treat from Steak 'n Shake and a present.

Halloween

Jakob had a wonderful Halloween this year despite not wanting to put on his dinosaur costume. He decided to wear his Santa hat instead.  We were able to take the costume to school and Ms. Edina put it on him to wear for the Halloween parade.  Unfortunately Mom and Dad didn't get to see him in it!  He wouldn't put it on for trick or treating but we managed to get his pumpkin costume on him instead.  It was a rainy night but we made it to a few houses where he got lots of candy!  He loved it and was upset when it was time to go inside. He really enjoyed when the other kids came to the door in their costumes!  And, of course, eating a couple of pieces of candy with Daddy was fun too!

September

September was full of family fun!  On Labor Day weekend, we went to a BBQ next door and spent a lot of time outside, especially on the play ground and riding on our bikes.  The following weekend, we went to the Bubble Picnic hosted by the school district and Jakob enjoyed playing with the bubbles and participating in the water and craft activities.  Nana and Papa met us for lunch on September 8th and Jakob enjoyed reading books with Nana.  On Thursday, September 12th, Jakob was surprised when Noni and Lito showed up at school.  On Friday, we spent the day at Suson farm where Jakob got to see all of the animals.  He really enjoyed spending time with Noni and Lito!  On Saturday, he got to watch Daddy, Lito, and Uncle Anthony participate in the Tough Mudder.  Despite being outside for 6 hours without a nap, he did great and enjoyed watching all of the people.  The last weekend in September was a drive-in movie at Mommy's friend's house.  Jakob was upset that he didn't have a cool car like everyone else so he was "car hopping" but thankfully the other girls didn't mind him stealing their seat.  He definitely had a burst of language this month, saying new words each day.  In the middle of the month, he started saying "boo boo, it hurts", so Aunt Barbara's boo boo bunny is now in the freezer for the moment when a boo boo strikes!  He also started wanting to put on his pants at the end of the month and loves walking around with his hands in his pockets.  He still mostly only wears his swim trunks, rotating between turtles, penguins, yellow, and flip flops.

August Adventures

Water and the playground were the keys to the August adventures.  It was part of the daily routine.  Other fun activities included playing in bed with Daddy in the morning, and helping him mow the grass.  He likes taking baths in the laundry room sink (as an alternative to the bathtub) and he has started counting.

Fun times with the swing set box!  Mom and Dad pulled Jakob around the yard in the box for 30 minutes.

Fingerpaint...it doubles as belly paint!

Jakob now likes to carry his own bag to church and school.

On August 30th, Mommy and Jakob had fun at a new playground!  He's still wearing his swim trunks and shirts wherever we go, although we did actually make it to the pool for the first time this summer after the playground adventures.  Jakob enjoyed riding around on his baby raft that he called "the boat".
