August Adventures

Water and the playground were the keys to the August adventures.  It was part of the daily routine.  Other fun activities included playing in bed with Daddy in the morning, and helping him mow the grass.  He likes taking baths in the laundry room sink (as an alternative to the bathtub) and he has started counting.

Fun times with the swing set box!  Mom and Dad pulled Jakob around the yard in the box for 30 minutes.

Fingerpaint...it doubles as belly paint!

Our new favorite hiding spot - underneath the grill with the doors shut.

Jakob now likes to carry his own bag to church and school.

First time eating corn on the cob - August 8th.  He loves it!

Water = loads of fun!

On August 30th, Mommy and Jakob had fun at a new playground!  He's still wearing his swim trunks and shirts wherever we go, although we did actually make it to the pool for the first time this summer after the playground adventures.  Jakob enjoyed riding around on his baby raft that he called "the boat".

July Fun

July brought upon the "burst of language" and lots of fun.  He is now saying full sentences, with his favorites being "I see birds" and I see an airplane".  On July 7th, we went to a Cardinals gave with Nana and PaPa.  Jakob was happy to see them but not happy to sit still during the game for a couple of hours.

On July 12th we met Jakob's NICU friend, Sophie, at Chick Fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day.  He enjoyed playing in the play area but when it was time to dress up like a cow, he refused.  So, Mom put on his cow outfit to get him a free kids meal.

On July 16th after a good day at school and playing on the playground with Mom and Dad before bed, we ended up in the emergency room at 9:30 pm since he wasn't able to breathe.  With a diagnosis of croup, after a breathing treatment and some steroids, we were able to go home at midnight with instructions to stay home for three days.  Mom especially enjoyed the three days off with Jakob even though it was unexpected.  We took a lot of walks and played outside.  It also gave Mom the opportunity to hear phrases she might not otherwise have heard.  When Mom was changing his diaper on July 18th, he said, "Pee ew, it mells"!  The next day, when changing his diaper he said, "I mell, I shower".

We celebrated Jakob's birthday both on July 24th (with just Mom and Dad) and July 27th (with Nana and PaPa).  On the 24th, Jakob opened a card from Lito and Noni that he was initially scared of and then he ran away and sat on the chair and kept saying "again" to listen to the card again. He also opened presents from Aunt Barbara and Uncle Earl, and the McClains and ate his ice cream cone with chocolate and strawberry ice cream and ran through the sprinklers.  He loved all of his presents!  He has really enjoyed playing on the swing set that Noni and Lito got him!

On July 27th, Nana and PaPa came and we had a fun time celebrating with his Elmo cake and with Mr. Wiggles (sprinkler that you run through) that Nana and PaPa gave him.
